‘WHO WON THE SPACE RACE?’ By Soumil Sapori

‘There are many problems to solve on this planet first before we trash other worlds’.
Space Race was a 20th century competition between two cold war rivals, the Soviet Union (USSR) to achieve their goal which was space flight capability. The space came from inter-continental Ballastic missile based on nuclear arms between the two nations that occurred following World War 2.
This all started when Werhner von Braun who created the V 2 Rocket after WW2 moved to USA. His rocket was then taken by USSR.

Then, Sputnik 1 was launched and unfortunately burnt on January 4th 1958 while re-entering the Earth’s atmosphere. It completed 1440 orbits of Earth which is about 70 million km.
In Sputnik 2, Laika dog died because of high temperature in the rocket.
Sputnik 3 again lost its recorder without full evidence. US Apollo 1 was a failure as three astronauts died because of a blast.

At last US won the race by sending Apollo 11 in which Neil Armstrong stepped first time on the moon. Reaching moon was a very big mission in the Space Race. It said that the Apollo’s total cost of the program was twenty five billion dollars which is one hundred fifty two billion in today’s dollars. “Sometimes we stare so long at the door that is closing that we see, but when we open it we see a new door’.
